Job Summary: Prepares sterile and non-sterile medications. Delivers medications including controlled substances to nursing areas and ancillary departments in accordance to established policies and procedures and DEA and DPH regulations. Communicates with Pharmacists and Nursing Staff to ensure timely preparation and delivery of medications.
- Prepares sterile products in accordance with USP <797> standards. Delivers IV medications to the appropriate location. Maintains records pertaining to sterile compounding, restocks compounding area, completes all appropriate QA and required cleaning in compounding area.
- Monitors and maintains automated dispensing machines. Assigns medications to automated dispensing machines. Reviews current inventory list for automated dispensing machines to determine medications that should be removed based on use.
- Delivers controlled substances to automated dispensing machines in compliance with all DEA and DPH regulations. Monitors expiration dates of all medications in automated dispensing machines.
- Restocks floor stock/automated dispensing machines. Refills and exchanges code boxes and medication kits to nursing units and ancillary areas. Monitors expiration dates of code boxes and medication kits in the pharmacy.
Problem Solving: Ability to identify, evaluate, and recommend solutions to problems.
Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, policies and procedures related to pharmacy. Recognizes names and indications of commonly prescribed medications. Ability to perform standard pharmaceutical calculations.
Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals. Upholds the values of New England Baptist Hospital and the Baptist Way standards.
High School Diploma or GED
Current Registration required with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacy Technician or Intern
Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
