The Leadership Gifts Officer is responsible for the development and management of a leadership gifts portfolio. S/He will identify, cultivate, and solicit $500K-$2 million in gifts per year, generating $200,000-$400,000 million in year one, $400,000-$600,000 in revenue in year two, and $750,000 or more in revenue by year three and beyond. S/He will work with Major Gifts, Annual Giving, and Operations to identify and qualify prospects, and design solicitation and stewardship strategies focused on increased philanthropy.  When appropriate, the Officer will work with physicians and staff to develop strategies and proposals, set and attend meetings with faculty and provide follow-up.  In addition, s/he will work with Philanthropy Communications to create fundraising collateral.  

The ideal candidate will be professional, diplomatic, highly organized and efficient, detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and must have excellent interpersonal skills, outstanding written and verbal communications skills, and use good judgment in carrying out his/her duties. This role requires developing and maintaining collaborative professional relationships with the philanthropy team and hospital staff. Must be a team player and willing to work with others, yet independent enough to drive projects on his/her own and must thrive in a fast-paced environment. Five plus years of development/fundraising or related experience is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Executive Director, Philanthropy, with a dotted line to the Director, Annual Fund, manages a portfolio of 100-200 prospects capable of making gifts and pledges in the range of $5,000-$50,000.
  • Builds relationships with major, leadership annual fund, and planned giving prospects and donors. As appropriate, identifies Hospital leadership, physicians, Trustees, and Committee members to be engaged with prospects, designs gift strategies, and drives the process to qualify, cultivate, solicit and close gifts.
  • In collaboration with the ED and the Director, Annual Fund, plans, organizes, and implements strategic initiatives designed to enhance the loyalty and dedication of the Baptist’s patients, friends and other identified constituencies. These may include cultivation and/or stewardship events.

Attributes/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five or more years of relevant experience in annual, major and/or planned giving programs, preferably in hospitals and/or health care.
  • Demonstrated track record of significant achievement and progressively increasing results in annual, major and planned gifts.
  • Skilled in face-to-face solicitation.
  • Experience in engaging volunteers and prospects.
  • A thorough knowledge of and commitment to best practices in fundraising programs including metrics goal settings and measurements.
  • Demonstrated expertise in working with and motivating volunteers, fundraising committees and boards.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen and interact effectively with donors, administrators/leaders, and Board members.
  • Strong demonstrated verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively with other team members, managing multiple projects and priorities.
  • A demonstrated ability to work in complex organizations preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills; experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred.
  • Commitment to Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethical Principles and Standards.
  • Sense of humor.
  • Ability to work evenings/weekends when necessary
